Ropes course plan swings into action

The Fremont Union High Schools Foundation is looking forward to beginning the construction of a ropes course at Sunnyvale's Baylands Park, but first it needs to raise nearly $40,000 more to cover the project's cost.

To kick off its campaign to raise the remaining money, the foundation hosted a breakfast at the site Sept. 24. The ropes course will help young people and adults build confidence, self-esteem and teamwork, Lynbrook High School Principal Bill Richter said.

The Ropes Course at Baylands Park is a cooperative effort of the Fremont Union High Schools Foundation, the school district, the city of Sunnyvale and the Northwest YMCA.

To donate money to the ropes course project, call Cindy McArthur at 522-2206.

Correction

A story in the Oct. 8 issue of The Sun misidentified the ceremony in which Diane Timko was honored. The Sunnyvale Elementary District's Teacher of the Year was honored by the Santa Clara County Office of Education Oct. 6 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.
