COC holds brewfest

The Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the first Bay Area Brewers Exposition Oct. 20 on South Murphy Avenue between Evelyn and Washington avenues.

The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

South Murphy will be transformed into a beer garden featuring beverages by the Bay Area's best microbreweries. Attendees will also be able to sample treats and savor cigars in a special area.

Admission and parking are free, and CalTrain stops a block from the expo site.

Partial proceeds from the expo will benefit local nonprofit organizations.

Rowe releases secret memos

Eleven months after The Sun published information from confidential city documents concerning the conduct of Frances Rowe, the former Sunnyvale mayor released a folder containing some of the private memos at an Oct. 8 press conference.

The documents contain allegations that city officials met illegally in closed session on several occasions last year to discuss employee complaints that led to Rowe's departure from City Hall.

Before a small group of supporters in front of City Hall, Rowe expressed concern over the city's spending more than $100,000 to defend a lawsuit filed by the Mercury News last year. The paper sued the city to obtain the documents The Sun secured last year, which detail complaints about Rowe.

Among the complaints about Rowe's behavior was a comment by the city's outside counsel that a jury could find Rowe guilty of sexually harassing the city attorney.
