City manager LaSala picks from past for underling
City manager Bob LaSala appointed Charles J. Schwabe as Sunnyvale's deputy city manager for organizational effectiveness. LaSala created the position earlier this year, to oversee the entire city's organizational effectiveness program.
LaSala previously worked with Schwabe in Florida, where Schwabe was serving as senior assistant city manager in Coral Springs while LaSala served as financial director.
Schwabe, who is 50 years old, has more than 27 years of experience in municipal management and has served as assistant city manager in Coral Springs since 1985. He will start in Sunnyvale Dec. 13.
Make your waste work for you
A free class on the basics of composting will be held Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Sunnyvale Community Center Arboretum. The workshop, sponsored by the city and county, will teach participants how to turn yard waste and food scraps into fertilizer, compost, and lawn feed. It will run from 10 a.m. to noon.
Sunnyvale residents will also be able to purchase a low-cost composting bin at the end of the class. Call 730-7262 to register. The arboretum is located at 550 E. Remington Drive.
