Improvements aim to unclog Lawrence

Lawrence Expressway, currently the most congested local arterial in Sunnyvale and in Santa Clara County, will have numerous improvements made due to the cooperation of five governmental groups and one private group. The cities of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara each contributed $1.3 million, Santa Clara County contributed $5 million, the state contributed $7 million, the federal government contributed $10 million and Kaiser Foundation contributed $268,000 to relieve the congestion and improve the air quality in the Lawrence Expressway corridor.

A carpool lane has been added in each direction on Lawrence between Highway 280 and Highway 237, and signals on the expressway have been synchronized from Saratoga Road in Campbell to Highway 237 in Sunnyvale.

Lawrence was chosen for priority funding because of its "primary commuter route" status in the county.

The improvement project also included widening the expressway over the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks, Stevens Creek Boulevard and El Camino Real and under Central Expressway.

Made for TV

Employees at Il Postale, an Italian restaurant in downtown Sunnyvale, had a chance Oct. 15 to be in Bed of Lies, a made-for-TV movie that will air sometime in December.

The movie, produced by Hearst Entertainment, stars Cassidy Rae from the series Models Inc., and Vincent Irizarry from the soap opera Guiding Light.

"It was very hectic," said Il Postale owner Joe Antuzzi. "It took about eight hours to shoot five minutes of the movie."
