Gerry Paul, former resident
Gerry A. Paul, 44, died on Sept. 14, at his home in Beaverton, Ore., after a year-and-a-half battle with melanoma. Gerry and his family were residents of Sunnyvale for 15 years, until 1974. While living in the area, the Paul family was active in the Sunnyvale Unitarian Fellowship.
During high school and while attending San Jose State University, Gerry worked for The Cupertino Courier, riding his bike to work to repair the 40 to 50 newsstands in the area.
In 1978, after graduating from college, Motorola hired Gerry as a technical writer. In 1991, Gerry moved with the company to Phoenix, Ariz. Three years ago, Gerry moved to Beaverton and was employed as a technical writer at ADP in Portland, where he happily worked until mid-August of this year.
Gerry enjoyed family gatherings, hiking, walking, bicycling, canoeing, gardening and sports. He was an avid football and baseball fan, and was also interested in history, literature, politics and current events. Gerry was active in his church, and cared for his health by jogging and eating properly.
Gerry is survived by his wife of 11 years, Dana Paul, and their daughters Elizabeth Joy, 7, and Hannah Rose, 5. His brother, sister, mother and stepfather, and his grandmother also survive him.
A memorial service was held at the Southwest Hills Baptist Church in Beaverton. The family request remembrances be made to the Franz Cancer Research Center, c/o Providence Medical Center, 4805 N.E. Glisan St, Portland, Ore., 97213, designated for melanoma research.
