City's youth program honored for services
Youth@Work, a program linking employers and teens, was honored by the League of California Cities at its conference in San Jose Oct. 11. Youth@Work, a creation of Sunnyvale-based Nova Private Industry Council, was one of 30 city program selected from 237 entrants as winners of the California Cities Helen Putnam Award. The award recognizes civic programs that have resulted in lower costs or more effective delivery of services. Youth@Work has linked over 4000 youth with employers and related resources since 1996. School district auctioning art
The Sunnyvale School District Education Foundation is holding an art exhibit and auction this Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Sunnyvale Community Center. For the past eleven years, the foundation has been raising funds which helped launch a media project and net literacy program which were later adopted by the district.
This will be the second annual art auction, and it includes lithographs, etchings, oil paintings and watercolors. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Myrna Klokow at (408) 738-8708.
