    City loses long-time resident

    Violet Mae Laine, teacher and pianist, died on Sept. 27. She was 89.

    Laine taught kindergarten and music at De Anza College, and was involved in civic and church activities, including playing in the Mountain View Senior Center Orchestra.

    Memorial services were held on Oct. 4 at Los Altos United Methodist Church. The family requests that any donations in Laine's honor be given to the music department at Los Altos United Methodist Church and/or Mountain View Senior Center Orchestra.
