The following incidents were culled from reports filed by the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Grand theft--Oct. 23, 1:15 p.m. 200 block of Washington Avenue. A man entered a department store and took several items from the shelf. Store security placed him under citizen's arrest when he left the store. He was booked into main jail.
Burglary--Oct. 21, 8:15 a.m., 800 block of California Avenue. A woman returned to her car to find that it had been broken into during the night. The rear window had been smashed, and the car stereo and cellular phone, worth a total of $850, were removed.
Fatal accident--Oct. 18, 6:30 a.m., at the intersection of Central Expressway and Mary Avenue. A large construction pickup truck came to a stop at a red light at Mary Avenue; the driver then continued into the intersection while the light was still red. He hit a Ford Mustang that was driving westbound on Central Expressway. The Mustang had a green light. The woman driving the Mustang was seriously injured and taken to San Jose Medical Clinic. She died two hours after the accident. The driver of the truck was not injured. The accident is still under investigation.
Fraud--Oct. 17, 6:15 p.m., 700 block of El Camino Real. A man and woman walked into a bank located in a grocery store. The couple presented the teller with a check. While the teller waited for authorization of the check, the couple became nervous and tried to leave the store. Officers arrested the couple and found fraudulent identification on the woman.
Residential burglary--Oct. 23, 11:40 a.m., 1500 block of New Brunswick Avenue. A laptop computer, cell phone, disk drive, modem and computer manuals were taken from a woman's home while she was at work. There was no sign of forced entry.
