Cheerleaders advance
The Sunnyvale Rockets Pop Warner Football cheerleading squad placed second in the conference finals held last weekend at Independence High School, and now advance to regional competition Nov. 28 in Oakland.
The 49-member Rocket cheerleader squad finished second to Santa Teresa, but finished high enough in the 20-team field to advance to the regionals. The top finishers in Oakland move on to the nationals.
Dons split
Melissa Stankevich knocked in two goals and Kara Grondzik supported with three assists to lead the De Anza College women's soccer team to a 5-0 win over Hartnell in Coast Conference play last week.
But the Lady Dons closed out the week with a 2-0 loss to Ohlone to slip to 12-1-1 in conference play.
The De Anza men's team, meanwhile, opened the week with a 5-0 win over Foothill but lost later in the week, falling 3-1 to Hartnell. The Dons are 13-1-1 in the conference.
Hummers make the play-offs
The Hummers pulled out a 11-10 win over the Homestead Homers in the final regular season game to clinch a play-off berth in the Sunnyvale co-rec softball league.
The Hummers moved into the play-offs with Beauties and the Beast, Mix Plate, and the Big Dogs.
