Senior Friends offers Mature Driving Course
In conjunction with the American Association of Retired Persons, the Senior Friends chapter at Good Samaritan Hospital offers the 55 Alive Mature Driving Course on Nov. 11 and 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The classes are taught by AARP-trained instructor Dick Kohl. After completing both classes, participants receive certificates entitling them to a discount on their auto insurance for a period of three years. Cost is $10 per person.

Tai chi class geared especially to seniors
As part of the various classes it offers in art, poetry, exercise and Japanese tea traditions to the community, Hakone Gardens, at 21000 Big Basin Way in Saratoga, offers a tai chi class open to all but designed particularly with senior citizens in mind. Instructor Linda Scheer, a tai chi practitioner for 13 years, will lead participants through low-impact, meditative and graceful movements that promote strength, muscle tone, relaxation and health of body and mind.
Classes take place every Thursday, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. in Hakone's Lower House. Cost is $65 for an eight-week series, or $12 on a drop-in basis. To find out when the next series begins, or for other information, call Scheer at 408.295.9439, or email her at linda@xs.com.
