The sky is surely not falling
It amazes me that Frances Rowe is, yet again, running for a Sunnyvale City Council seat after getting ousted and losing a subsequent re-election bid.
It is probably true that the then-sitting council members had mishandled the whole matter after it became clear that Rowe overstepped her boundaries. Sunnyvale's city attorney contended that because Rowe's actions affected other non-elected city staff members, some of the discussions were a personnel matter and were not subject to open public forums as dictated by the Brown Act. And although the city of Sunnyvale lost its argument in court, many people then--and still do--contended that Rowe was and is wholly unfit to be on the City Council.
Frances Rowe's latest ploy is to act like Chicken Little, crying that the city of Sunnyvale is in financial, political and managerial disarray.
Too bad no one apprised her of Sunnyvale's AA+ credit rating and some of the improvements in services and infrastructure that the city is currently engaged in.
The fact that each one of the current council members and eight of the former city mayors all endorse her opponent, Tim Risch, is testimony that Rowe is not the candidate to support.
Her insistence on running again and again, and the clamor that she generates in the process, suggests that Frances Rowe is not only inappropriate for sitting on the City Council, but also is doing so to avenge some personal vendetta.
Another candidate, David Schumann, is running against incumbent Jack Walker using the same ploy. Schumann, also an election-time perennial and general malcontent, seems to be tied at the hip with Rowe, with each mutually supporting the other.
If there's anything scarier to this Sunnyvale resident than the prospect of Frances Rowe getting elected this November it's having both Schumann and Rowe getting elected. Then, Chicken Little's prophecy will truly be self-fulfilling.
