    Citizens sought for three boards

Sunnyvale residents interested in getting involved in civic government have an opportunity to do so. The city seeks to fill five vacancies on three advisory boards. Applicants are sought for the Board of Library Trustees, the Housing and Human Services Commission, and the Planning Commission.

Applications and information are available in City Hall's South Annex. The number is 408.730.7533.

An informational meeting will be held Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. in the West Conference Room of City Hall.

Applicants must be registered voters living in Sunnyvale and not be, or be related to, employees of the city.

    Online permits now available

Contractors, businesses and homeowners should now be able to obtain basic permits in minutes, regardless of the hour of day--or night--provided they have Internet access. The system, which went up on Oct. 27, allows users to set inspection dates, print out permits and receipts, and provide payment without setting foot in City Hall. Currently, the e-permits are confined to simple permits which comprise more than half of those demanded.

The site and a smiliar one in Mountain View are said to be among the first in the nation to allow people to apply for, receive and pay for building permits online.
