NASA taps virtual reality as tool

Virtual reality will soon be used to test experimental planes and aircraft at NASA. In the past researchers had to be present at NASA's test facilities to see how pilots reacted to aircraft. Now researchers can be miles away and "walk around" a three-dimensional computerized world that represents the testing center. So far the virtual reality testing center has been used by astronauts to simulate space shuttle landings. Astronauts' movements were able to be monitored by engineers in Houston with the use of video screens, computer video and two-way video conferencing.
