Women's group honors mayor

The Sunnyvale chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Organization honored Mayor Robin Parker as its Woman of Achievement at a dinner Oct. 23.

"It makes me feel great. I'm very honored to receive the award from this organization because it's a worldwide group made up of women in business. I'm just elated," Parker said.

About 40 women from the Sunnyvale, Los Gatos, Mountain View and Willow Glen chapters attended the dinner, held at the Towne Oak restaurant.

Parker, who was a more active member of the group before taking on council duties, said she enjoyed visiting with women she hadn't seen for a long time.

Parker was selected for her roles in community service, mentorship of other women and success at Hewlett-Packard, where she serves as the company's worldwide consumer-satisfaction manager.

"Robin's name rose to the top of the list," said Sunnyvale resident Pat Castillo, who served on the selection committee. "Robin is known for her ability to see both sides of an issue and help make decisions in the best interest of the whole community."
