NOVA holds job fair for young people
Youth between the ages of 14 and 24 are invited to attend a Holiday Job Fair Nov. 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the NOVA Youth Employment Office, on the second floor of the Silicon Valley WAVE (formerly the Sunnyvale Town Center Mall), near the intersection of Mathilda. The event offers youth the opportunity to meet with representatives from local businesses looking for full-time, part-time and seasonal help. Local employers will have representatives available to talk with job seekers about their companies. Also participating are WAVE businesses preparing to hire individuals for various positions within their stores.
NOVA is a seven-city employment training consortium administered by the city of Sunnyvale. The NOVA Youth Employment Office is a no-cost placement and referral service and is available to assist youth in locating jobs.
For more information, call the Youth Employment Office at 408.522.9845 or visit the website at www.youthatwork.org.
City installs high-visibility signs at school crossings
The city of Sunnyvale is installing new high-visibility pedestrian crossing signs at various school crossings within the city. The new signs, colored "fluorescent strong yellow-green," are easier to see than the familiar yellow signs, especially in twilight and overcast conditions.
"State and federal governments have formally approved these
signs, so we want to take advantage of their benefits," said Joe Avila, traffic engineer with the Sunnyvale Traffic Engineering Division.
Studies have shown that these signs significantly reduce the number of pedestrian-vehicle conflicts. They also greatly increase the percentage of vehicles that stop or slow down.
Stakeholders are invited to participate in meetings
Stakeholders--residents of Sunnyvale--are invited to participate in ongoing discussions about development in the downtown area.
The next Downtown Stakeholders Advisory meeting is set for Nov. 14 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Del Monte Building, 100 S. Murphy Ave.
