Donald Moulds and Patrick Ohara weren't about to sink quietly in the west.
It was the last game of the season for the Fremont water polo team. The Firebirds were battling Mt. Pleasant for seventh place in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
The 'Birds eventually lost a 15-10 decision to the Cardinals to finish the league season with a 1-9 record and 5-13 mark overall for the year.
But Moulds and Ohara were determined to give the Cards a run for their money.
Both pitched in three goals apiece to help keep the Firebirds in the game right down to the final period.
Chris Stockhaus supported with two goals for Fremont, and Brendan Cable and Paul Fukuma added one apiece.
The Firebirds trailed just 3-2 after a period, and were still close at the half, down just three at 8-5. But the Cards outscored Fremont 6-3 in the third to take control of the game, then held off the Firebirds despite getting outscored 2-1 in the fourth.
Homestead, meanwhile, played for third place in the division, but lost 11-8 to Santa Clara to wind up fourth overall.
