    Dons Top Yuba

    The De Anza Community College men's basketball team rolled to an 89-79 win over Yuba last Friday night in the second round of the Shasta Invitational. The Dons had lost their opener 89-71 to American River.

    The Dons, now 2-1 for the year, had opened the season with a 94-79 non-conference victory over Cañada College of Redwood City.

    Perlik plays two

    Krista Perlik of Campbell is a member of the women's basketball team at San Jose Christian College. The 5-foot junior guard also played volleyball for the Warriors in the fall.

    Perlik starred in both basketball and volleyball at Westmont High School before moving on to San Jose Christian.

    She is just one of five local athletes competing at the local Christian college. Others include Tara Eichinger (Los Gatos), 6-foot-4 sophomore center on the women's basketball team; Justin Bower (Homestead), a sophomore midfielder on the men's soccer team; Aron Shimada (Pioneer), a freshman defender on the men's soccer team; and Chad Salstrom (Leigh), a junior forward on the men's soccer team.

    Cheer squad second

    The cheer squad of the Gold Star Gymnastics Club finished second at the Universal Cheerleaders Association regionals last month. Team members included Mari Chosich, Ashley Estes, Lauren Frushon, Bekki Grogan, Amanda Henry, Angelina Oribello, Jill Pescosolido, Stefania Pruscino, Marisa Roquero, Anna Stern, Ayla Storz, Jenell Vierra, Kristine Vierra, Jennifer Wade and captain Amelia Casino.
