What's happening on campus?
By Gina Contro
Many of the schools in the Fremont Union High School District are dealing with diversity issues. As I'm sure all of you know our area is comprised of many nationalities. A recent local article about "Asian Pride" gangs made schools realize that diversity is an issue that needs to be dealt with.
Many of our student newspapers responded to it. At Homestead they had a workshop where teachers and students were asked to envision what they would like Homestead to be like. More than once the issue of diversity came up. Everyone wants school to be less tense and more pleasant. Fremont High's leadership class, MOSAIC, is dealing with the same issue.
On Nov. 12 there was a community forum at Monta Vista High School. Many interesting issues were brought out. The majority of the schools in our district are packed. Many parents and students think that it is due to all the "illegals," who go to our schools but do not live in our district. I'm sure that has something to do with it because off the top of my head I can name almost twenty "illegals" But if we look at the trend, all our schools are getting crowded. The elementary schools are crowded and the junior highs are crowded. We're all packed in here like rats. Is it really only the fault of the people attending who don't live in our district?
On Dec. 12, students will hold a districtwide talent show. It will be in the Monta Vista auditorium at 7 p.m. It only costs $3 with an ASB card and $4 without. Come and see us perform!
