Don't forget kibble in that stocking
The Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley is asking residents to make a difference in the life of a homeless animal this holiday season.
While buying food and toys for pets, the society urges residents to buy extras to donate to the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley's Holiday Food and Toy Drive. Dry dog and cat kibble, training treats and toys are on the animals, wish list this year.
The Humane Society, located at 2530 Lafayette St. in Santa Clara, is open 24 hours a day to receive donations. For more information, call 727-3383, ext. 854.
Give blood
The 13th annual Community Blood Drive is set for Dec. 4 at the Northwest YMCA, from noon to 7 p.m. in Cupertino. A free cholesterol screening is offered to all donors. Cops go for third year, no deaths
Sunnyvale police are joining law-enforcement agencies throughout the county to achieve the unprecedented: A third consecutive Christmas and New Year's holiday season with no deaths caused by drunken drivers.
Avoid the 13, the annual crackdown on people who drink and drive, begins one minute past midnight on Dec. 12, and continues for three weeks until midnight New Year's Day.
Sunnyvale will allocate 300 hours of overtime to reassign five officers and a supervisor to patrol during prime drinking-driver hours, Public Safety Lt. Doug Sims said. Sunnyvale police made 115 arrests in the city during last year's campaign.
