Citywide recycling program picking up

Sunnyvale's citywide recycling program for apartments and condominiums, which began Sept. 30, has received a strong response from the start, said Mark Bowers, the city's solid waste program manager.

"I would say that the quality of the materials we're collecting exceeds our expectations, but there is certainly room for growth," he said.

On-site recycling allows an estimated 60,000 city residents who live in apartments and condominiums to recycle newspapers, glass bottles and jars, aluminum and tin cans, and plastic bottles and jugs in two blue carts located on each property, Bowers said.

The city has almost reached its goal for all Sunnyvale residents to have either curbside or multi-family service, Bowers said.
