    Energy-saving tips for current times

With winter approaching, the cool temperatures have caused residents and businesses to turn up their heaters. The combination of intense heat load and a number of generators statewide that are offline for routine seasonal service have contributed to the current shortage of electricity. Silicon Valley Power (SVP) offers the following suggestions to support the effort to save energy:

    * Set thermostat no higher than 68 degrees.

    * Turn off unused lights, office equipment and appliances.

    * Schedule large jobs for mid-morning to early afternoon when the light is best and heat generated by the sun will be helpful.

    * Avoid using equipment and appliances with large power demand during the late afternoon and evening.

    * For long-term power-saving opportunities, call SVP at 408.615.5694 for a free energy audit and recommendations.

    La Peña performances

La Peña Juchit Ireta presents performers Rafael Manriquez, Chilean composer and singer, and Los Compadres singing Latin songs from the 1930s and 1940s. The performance will take place on Dec. 2, at the Sunnyvale Community Center, located at 550 E. Remington Drive, at 7 p.m. A $10 donation is requested per person. Children enter for free. For more information, call 408.732.7829.
