On Dec. 10, developers will take ownership of Chuck's Produce Stand and the Stowell Ranch on Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road. Chuck Stowell, owner of the produce stand and partial owner of the land, says selling the land is merely bowing to the inevitable. The passing of his mother Dolly in March meant Chuck and his two sisters Carol and Faye had a decision. They could pay considerable inheritance tax and continue in their trade. Or they could sell the last seven acres of the land that his family has owned since his grandfather bought the 25-acre ranch surrounding it in 1898. With the value of the land and his and his siblingsÕ separate interests, he says the choice was natural.
