Vikings, Dons fall

Goals by Juan Torres and Saloman Enow weren't enough to get the De Anza and West Valley community college men's soccer teams into the state championship game last weekend.

Torres scored off a Kevin Buss assist to help De Anza fight Santa Ana to a 1-1 tie by halftime, but the Dons gave up an unanswered goal in the second to lose 2-1 in the state semifinal game.

It was much the same for West Valley. Enow's first-half goal pushed the Vikings to a 1-1 tie with Santa Barbara by intermission, but the Vikes allowed a goal in the second half to lose 2-1.

Santa Ana and Santa Barbara were to advance to the state championship game on Sunday, though.

The losses, though, couldn't diminish outstanding seasons for both the Dons and Vikings. De Anza finished the year with a solid 19-4-1 record, and West Valley ended up 19-2-3.
