Lewcock leaves manager position
Sunnyvale City Manager Thomas F. Lewcock announced last week that he will retire in July, after 20 years of serving the city.
"I have had the extraordinary privilege of working with an outstanding staff and very supportive city councils while serving this community," Lewcock said.
Lewcock was promoted to city manager in 1980 after serving as assistant city manager and acting city manager for the previous 2 1/2 years.
Lewcock said he plans to combine his experience in city government with his interests in teaching, writing and consulting.
The City Council will begin a national search immediately to find a new city manager.
Correction
A news brief in the Nov. 20 issue of The Sun incorrectly reported how councilmembers voted Nov. 12 on a proposed study to change the zoning on the southwest corner of Mary and Washington avenues.
Councilmember Pat Vorreiter voted with the majority to oppose the study. Councilmembers Robin Parker, Manuel Valerio and Jack Walker voted to go forward with a study.
