    Marines collecting toys

    In coordination with the U.S. Marines, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage of Northern California, will collect new, unwrapped gifts for its local Toys for Tots campaign. Coldwell Banker offices in the Bay Area will serve as collection centers from Nov. 30 through Dec. 19. Toys for Tots was founded in 1947 in Los Angeles, and since then, the U.S. Marines have distributed over 243 million toys to needy children across the nation. Members of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve will pick up the toys from each Coldwell Banker collection center and distribute them to charitable organizations and social welfare agencies in the area. Toys may be dropped off at the Coldwell Banker office at 1021 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose. For more information, call 408.264.5000.

    Happy Holidays Concert

    The Studio Theatre of California will perform a Christmas chorale concert, "Happy Holidays from the STOCtet," on Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Congregational Community Church of Sunnyvale, 1112 S. Bernardo Ave. Performances will feature Bay Area residents June Milanes, Marge Hand, Christy Ekbolm, Larisa North, Tim Mathews and Becky Ropa, and will be directed by Kevin Cormier.     Season of Light

    The Sunnyvale Singers, a 70-member community choir group, will present their winter concert, Season of Light, on Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Performing Arts Center, 550 Remington Dr., and on Dec. 17, at 3 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Church of the Nazarene, 636 W.     Long-term Care Seminar

    A Women's Circle

    All women are welcome to join a weekly discussion group on Tuesdays through Dec. 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Sunnyvale Senior Center, Room 502. The Circle is a supportive group that gives women a chance to get acquainted with other women, share experiences, discuss women's issues and the opportunity to be heard.     The Wonder of Christmas

    The Orchard Valley Christian Church is hosting a five-week series starting Nov. 26 and ending on Christmas eve, from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at the church at 1515 Partridge Ave., Sunnyvale. "The Christmas you've always longed for" will be a time of spiritual refreshment through the singing of traditional carols, lighting the Advent wreath and hearing messages of hope. Sermon topics include "slowing down for reflection," "manage the inevitable distractions" and "celebrate whatever your circumstances." The public is welcome to the English-speaking Asian church.     Author Book Signing

    Linda Rae Hermann, author of The Kennedy Legacy: It's Time to Fulfill It, will read from and autograph her book on Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. at Crown Books, 789 E. El Camino Real, Sunnyvale. Hermann will discuss the Kennedy legacy, answer questions and explore the changes in American culture based on her personal experiences and academic knowledge.     Musical search for the holiday spirit begins

    All are welcome to the holiday musical, Harriet Porter and the Search for the Holiday Spirit, on Dec. 9, at 2 and 8 p.m. at the Spangenberg Theater at Gunn High School, 780 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto. The performance, loosely based on the Harry Potter concept of wizards and magic, features the 150 combined voices of the San Jose Garden City Men's Chorus and the Bay Area Showcase Chorus Sweet Adelines. In addition to the eight-part barbershop harmony, each chorus will perform four-part harmony music from its holiday repertoire. Tickets are $15 for the matinee, $18 for the evening show.     Auditions Open for 'Annie'

    The Sunnyvale Community Players announces auditions for the junior series production of Annie. The group is seeking children, ages 8 to 18, for all roles. Technical and backstage crew are also needed. Auditions will be held on Dec. 10 and 11. from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Community Center Performing Arts Theater, 550 Remington Drive, Sunnyvale. Those wishing to audition must bring a song and sheet music in their key and not from Annie; must come dressed to dance; and bring a recent photograph. An accompanist will be provided.
