    Citizenship class to be offered

    The Sunnyvale-Cupertino Adult and Education Center is offering free classes in citizenship preparation. Separate classes will be offered for intermediate and advanced English speakers. Classes will cover applications, US history and culture, government, and the INS 100 question list. A one-day workshop will also be offered to prepare students for their oral interviews. Classes are Monday and Wednesday, January 24 to March 29. Call 408.522.2735 for details.

    Gun-for-gifts swap scheduled

    Guns for gifts--the San Jose Sharks, Sunnyvale Public Safety and other county police department are teaming up for the Second Annual Gifts for Guns Program. On December 12, from noon to 3 p.m., people can exchange firearms for gifts supplied by the Sharks and other businesses. The exchanges will take place at three locations; Stanford Stadium, San Martin Courthouse, and the San Jose Arena. At the San Jose event, a special forge will melt the guns onsite.

    Gifts include Sharks and Pac Bell Park tickets, as well as donations from EA Sports, Ticketmaster, American Airlines, and Adobe.

    Sobratos give money to locals

    Sobrato Foundation gives to Sunnyvale groups--The Digital Clubhouse and John

    Braly Elementary school were among 32 local organizations to receive substantial grants from the Sobrato Family Foundation.

    The Digital Clubhouse--a nonprofit group that teaches digital literacy to kids--received $12,000 to partially fund the salary of a new Executive Director position.

    Braly Elementary received $5000 to support Practice! Practice! Practice!, a program focused on improving literacy levels of fourth- and fifth-graders.
