Homestead shows they 'can'

Homestead High School students held their most successful canned food drive ever, as students collected more than 24,441 cans, potatoes, toys and dollars, with all of the proceeds going to Sunnyvale Community Services.

Organized in activities director Christy Heaton's leadership class and spearheaded by students Vanessa Lee and Amy Ho, the food drive went for two weeks with competition between third-period classes. The winning classes were: first place--Steve Headley's Algebra II (average of 135 cans per student); second place--Roger Edwards' Algebra II/Trig (average of 101 cans per student); and third place--Byron Lee's Business Law (average of 89.16 cans per student).
