Going once, going twice--sold; SCS raises $13,000
Sunnyvale Community Services raised a record $13,000 for its Community Christmas Center program at a Dec. 5 auction sponsored by the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce.
The proceeds from the event, held at the Washington Park Building in Sunnyvale, will go toward the purchase of food for the needy, said Nancy Tivol, executive director of SCS.
For the auction, SCS accepted donations that included footballs signed by members of the San Francisco 49ers, jewelry, food baskets, the use of vacation homes and skiing and scuba diving packages. The Sunnyvale Chamber then auctioned them off.
SCS is still accepting donations of toys, household gifts and packaged and canned foods, Tivol said. Those who want to make donations can call SCS at 735-7434.
Scouts prepare for 85th anniversary
Girl Scouts are launching a search to contact the 50 million alumni to invite to a grand 85th anniversary celebration in 1997.
The reunion will be held in Oakland on March 12, 1997.
Bay Area Girl Scout chapters are helping in the search by distributing Alumnae search cards in tandem with their Fall Nut and Calendar Sale, which began Nov. 15. Interested individuals can obtain an alumnae search card and more information about the Girl Scout reunion by calling (800)447-4475.
