Trial date set for burglarly suspect
A judge will hear the case of accused burglar David Vincent Lynchs on Jan. 7. Lynch has been charged with 24 felony counts of commercial burglary, some of which occurred in Sunnyvale. Lynch entered a "not guilty" plea to all charges during a Dec. 11 court appearance, according to Deputy District Attorney James Leonard. If convicted of all counts, Lynch could face more than 18 years in prison.
Lynch has been accused of breaking into 24 businesses, mostly technology companies in Mountain View and Sunnyvale, over a nine-month period. According to Leonard, Mountain View police detectives analyzed the string of break-ins from March to November and developed a profile of the burglar. Using this profile, detectives predicted the area the burglar would strike next. Stakeouts of that area led to Lynch's arrest, Leonard said.
On Nov. 3, officers stopped Lynch for an outstanding warrant shortly after a commercial burglary fitting their profile was reported. Leonard said the officers found a stolen laptop computer in Lynch's car. The laptop belonged to the company that had been burglarized minutes earlier.
"The probation department and the judge will look at the case and the evidence and make the best resolution," Leonard said.
AMD Toy Drive for center is a success
Employees of Advanced Micro Devices donated 1,592 toys in the company's toy drive for the
Sunnyvale Christmas Center, set up by Sunnyvale Community Services, a nonprofit organization that serves low-income families. In addition, AMD will match each toy donation with a cash equivalent of five bags of groceries, resulting in 7,960 bags of groceries for the Second Harvest Food Bank's Operation Brown Bag program, which serves low-income senior citizens.
During the holidays, low-income families are able to shop for free at the Christmas Center for two toys per child and a month's supply of groceries.
