    Public Safety

    The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Public Safety Department

    Commercial Burglary--Nov. 27, 9:17 a.m., 100 block Commercial Street. Unknown suspect(s) entered a locked storage container and proceeded to take tools and other equipment totaling $874. An officer responded to the scene, but no suspects were present and no identifiable fingerprints were found.

    Unlicensed Driver--Nov. 25, 7:48 p.m., intersection of Halford Avenue and El Camino Real. Officer observed suspect driving eastbound on El Camino Real with a defective muffler. Officer initiated a traffic stop. Dispatch informed officer that the registration was expired as of 6/99, but the license plate displayed 6/01 tabs. Driver told officer she didn't have a driver's license. She had no identification and was not eligible for citation release. Suspect was arrested and booked into county jail.

    Embezzlement--Nov. 19, 10:30 a.m., 800 block W. El Camino Real. While suspect was working at a cash register, he moved a closed circuit TV camera so he could access a cash drop box without being seen. Suspect removed $911 without the owner's permission.

    Petty Theft--Nov. 18, 4:05 p.m., intersection of Washington Avenue and Sunnyvale Avenue. Suspect was passed out in a vehicle in the Macy's parking lot. The vehicle was parked with the motor running. Officer woke suspect up after repeated attempts, but suspect was too intoxicated to drive. Suspect was given the opportunity to take a cab home in lieu of being arrested. Suspect willingly took cab and had money to pay for it, but refused to pay after reaching his home as requested. Cab driver suffered a loss of $27.

    Auto Burglary--Nov. 12, 4 p.m., 900 block S. Wolfe Road. Unknown suspect smashed a window and took a cellular phone. Suspect fled the scene and is still outstanding. Losses totaled $200.

    Commercial Burglary--Nov. 12, 2:20 p.m., 200 block W. Washington Avenue. Suspect entered Macy's and took clothes and cologne from a rack. Suspect passed cash registers without paying and exited the store. Store's security agents apprehended suspect outside the store. Suspect was arrested and transported to Sunnyvale Police headquarters.

    Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance--Nov. 12, 1:50 a.m., 1200 block Apollo Way. Suspect showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance and was arrested. During a consent search of the suspect's vehicle, a glass smoking pipe was found. The pipe is used to smoke crack or crank.

    Internet Fraud--Nov. 9, 10 a.m., 600 block Arcadia Terrace. Suspect advertised Mustang tires and rims on eBay. Victim responded to auction and was instructed to send $2,100 for the merchandise and $150 for shipping and handling. Suspect cashed victim's checks and never sent him the merchandise. Suspect used a computer to wrongfully obtain money and/or property in violation of the penal code.
