Cart them off!
Shopping carts! Everywhere you go in Sunnyvale you see abandoned shopping carts. Driving home one evening I counted seven carts sitting along Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road and Remington Avenue. There is an air of neglect and disinterest that hovers about these carts. They are like graffiti, unwanted reminders of someone's discourtesy to the community.
The city and city council should look into mitigating this problem. Mandating the technology that Nob Hill uses is one approach. Having the city pick up carts and billing stores for the expense is another method. Tickets issued for unauthorized parking or littering is another.
Regardless of the method, something must be done to eliminate this problem. It starts by someone stepping forward and acknowledging there is a problem and that solutions are available. Where are you, city government? Can you see the problem?
