Stephens wins award for poem of self-discovery

Daryl Stephens, a Sunnyvale resident who recently published an anthology of poetry, Seasons to Come, has won an Editor's Choice Award for 1994 from the National Library of Poetry.

Stephens received the honor for his poem "A Flower," which discusses human self-discovery. A writer for five years, Stephens currently is writing two works of fiction and his autobiography.

Mall walking begins

Sunnyvale Town Center, Camino Healthcare and Lifeguard for Seniors are offering an alternative to conventional cardiovascular exercise with "Walk-Fit," a structured mall-walking program.

Led by exercise physiologists, the walk is accompanied by weekly seminars on health topics presented by Camino Healthcare. Participants will be able to earn awards, such as water weights and T-shirts.

Walk-Fit kicks off on Jan. 8 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Sunnyvale Town Center; meet at the mall's lower level entrance near King's Table. The program will continue every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
