Obituary

Mark Earl Williams

Mark Earl Williams, who was raised in Sunnyvale, died of a heart attack on June 4 at the age of 58.

Williams was born in Bozeman, Mont., in 1943 and moved to California in 1952. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1962 and attended Foothill Junior College before he served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for exceptionally meritorious service.

In 1972, Williams graduated from San Diego State University and earned a master's in education from the University of San Francisco in 1976. For 29 years, Williams was a resident of Walnut Creek and taught in the Acalanes School District for 26 years, retiring in 1999.

He is survived by Suzanne, his wife of 34 years, his daughter and son-in-law Amy and Matt Duffy of Davis, son Clark Williams and his fiancˇe, Jessica Shera of Davis, and his grandchildren, Nicola and Sean Duffy. He is also survived by his parents, John and Margaret Williams of Sunnyvale, his brothers, John Gordon of Sunnyvale and Neil of Valencia, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Williams' life will be held at 2 p.m. on June 22 at Las Lomas High School, 1460 S. Main St. in Walnut Creek. All who were touched by his life are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mark Williams Memorial Fund, Wells Fargo Bank, 800 S. Broadway, Walnut Creek, 94596.
