A Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet climbed hard into the Saturday afternoon sky, and the thunderous sound of its jet engines eclipsed the "oohs" and "aahs" from the spectators at the Moffett Air Expo held at Moffett Air Field.
The Super Hornet was just one of the performers at the Air Expo, which took place on July 27 and 28. Modified biplanes looped and rolled through the sky. A modern A-10 Thunderbolt and a World War II P-51 flew side by side in a Heritage Flight to link past and present military aviation generations. And the California National Guard ended the show with a combat search and rescue demonstration, complete with simulated gunfire, bad guys, and, only on July 27th, window-shattering pyrotechnics. On the ground were more than 30 aircraft displays, including a P-51 Mustang, an F-16 Fighting Falcon and the gargantuan C-5 Galaxythe military's largest transport aircraft. This was the second annual Moffett Air Expo, and there is another scheduled for next year.
