Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society celebrates 35 years

Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society celebrates 35 years in existence with a watercolor show Aug. 130 at Rose Shenson Gallery, located behind the Triton Museum at 1505 Warburton Ave., Santa Clara.

On display at the show will be original works of art from local residents, including Cupertino and Sunnyvale, ranging from traditional transparent to experimental watercolor media.

The society was started by a high school art teacher named Samuel Cook, who also taught adult classes in watercolor at an art store in San Jose, and has expanded to 300 members. Members of the society continually seek out artistically interesting places and areas of historical significance to paint before they disappear due to development. The society holds workshops, paint site day trips every Thursday and larger trips.

The gallery hours are Thursday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information about the show or membership in Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society, call Bette Paris Mohr at 408.379.7499 or visit www.scvws.org.
