Sept. 11 gathering honors public safety

As the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks approaches, communities across the nation will come together and reflect on the past year's experiences. Residents and community members are encouraged to gather at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 and participate in an hour-long ceremony in front of city hall.

"This would give everyone an opportunity to reflect and remember," said Councilwoman Pat Vorreiter, who is a member of the city's task force working on the event.

A large element of the program will be honoring and recognizing Sunnyvale's public safety officers, she said. Music by youth bands will be featured. The task force is still looking for input and ideas from the public. For more information, call Deborah Clark, communications officer for the city, at 408.730.7476.
