Public Safety
The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
D.U.I.—Aug. 18, 7:24 p.m., intersection of Fair Oaks and Maude avenues. A Sunnyvale officer was dispatched to the site of an accident. On arrival, the officer found that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol. There were no injuries involved.

Burglary—Aug. 18, 2:49 p.m., 300 block of S. Sunnyvale Avenue. A public safety officer responded to a call from a department store about an in-custody shoplifter. The suspect had been observed entering a dressing room with numerous items of clothing in a department store shopping bag. Sometime later the suspect had exited the store and was stopped by store security.

Possession of Controlled Substance—Aug. 18, 12:13 a.m., 900 block of E. Evelyn Avenue. While a Sunnyvale public safety officer was conducting a traffic stop, he came upon a suspicious subject at the rear of the business above. During the contact, the officer found in the subject's possession a baggie containing 3.6 grams of what was suspected to be methamphetamine or amphetamine. The suspect, who was arrested and booked at the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, was later transferred to the county jail.

Unlicensed driver—Aug. 18, 12:05 a.m., intersection of Mary Avenue and Corte Madera. A Sunnyvale police officer responded to a report of a suspicious person. The officer observed a vehicle in violation of codes and asked the driver of that vehicle for his license. The suspect provided a California ID card but no license.

Possession of controlled substance—Aug. 16, 2:29 a.m., 200 block of W. Washington Avenue. A Sunnyvale police officer initiated contact with two suspects who were found to be in possession of a controlled substance believed to be ecstasy. The suspects were placed under arrest.
