Library offers its travel resources class on Sept. 12

Although summer is almost over, it's always the right time for a vacation, and the Sunnyvale Public Library is holding a free class from noon to 1 p.m. on Sept. 12 on how to prepare and plan for a trip using library resources. The free demonstration will point out web, video and print resources on travel destinations; show participants how to decide where to go based on travel guides and stories from experienced travelers; and provide detailed information about transportation, local train schedules and securing accommodations.

The program will also highlight the video and audiocassettes available for learning different languages and provide a listing of local activities to help with trip planning.

For more information, contact the library at 408.730.7300.

City uses eBOT for its new website

In about nine months visitors to the city's website will have the opportunity to request the receipt of automatic emails about topics meeting their specific interests. According to Marilyn Crane, Sunnyvale's manager of information technology services, the city is already working with a consultant on the website's redesign, which will incorporate the eBOT technology. Website visitors will be directed to an email sign-up page. After inputting personal information, the individual can elect to join one or more email groups.

The city is also looking into establishing other groups, such as one for providing information on the downtown development project or bicycle and pedestrian issues.

The eBOT feature will be permission-based; individuals can choose to unsubscribe from the email service at any time. The new website with the eBOT feature should be ready for use by May 2003, Crane said.
