The highlights of the event include an honoring of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, inspirational speeches, music from children's choir groups and local bands, lighting of candles, ringing of bells to honor the fallen and the reading of a poem titled "I am a New Yorker." Music will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the official program starting at 7 p.m. The event is expected to last no longer than two hours.

Members of the community are invited to attend and participate in the event. For more information, call 408.730.7476 or visit the city's website at www.ci.sunnyvale.ca.us.

City seeks input for housing program

City officials want the public to give them input on Sunnyvale's Below Market Rate Housing Program. According to Christine Cannizzo, assistant planner, the program will undergo an in-depth study to determine whether it needs revisions. With feedback from the public, the city will be able to assess the program and make necessary changes, she said.

The public is invited to attend all the scheduled meetings. A planning commission public hearing will be held on Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. A housing and human services commission public hearing is set for Sept. 25 at 7 p.m., and the Sunnyvale City Council public hearing is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. All the meetings will be held at Sunnyvale City Hall.
