Punt, Pass & Kick

The first round of the annual Punt, Pass & Kick contest will be held Oct. 13, 2 p.m., at the Camden Community Center, 3369 Union Ave. in San Jose. Boys and girls ages 8­15 (as of Dec. 31, 2002) are encouraged to participate. Competitors must supply copies of their birth certificates.

Youth sports grants

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame (BASHOF) is accepting grant applications from youth organizations and schools interested in purchasing new sports equipment.

The BASHOF Youth Fund has provided nearly $2 million to more than 350 sports organizations in the 11 counties of the Bay Area since its inception in 1981.

Chiropractic Challenge

The Santa Clara Chiropractic Society will host the second annual Chiropractic Challenge on Oct. 6 at Vasona Park in Los Gatos. Events included will be a 5K walk/run, a 10K run and a kids' 1K fun run.

The race will benefit the Campbell Educational Foundation and Kentuckiana Children's Center.

Check-in and race-day registration begins at 7 a.m., with the first race to get underway at 8:30 a.m. The pre-race registration fee is $25 and the fee is $30 on race day. Participants will receive a commemorative long-sleeve T-shirt, refreshments, and entry into a raffle.

Notre Dame golf

A golf tournament to benefit Notre Dame High School in San Jose will be held Oct. 7 at The Villages Golf and Country Club in San Jose. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon.

The entry fee of $195 includes lunch, golf, contests, auctions, a cocktail party, dinner and an awards ceremony.

Coed softball league

Registration begins this week for a "fun" fall coed softball league that plays its games on Sundays at Hathaway Park in San Jose. There will be sign-ups and games on Oct. 6 and 13, 11 a.m. each day, for players from beginner to D division skill level. The cost is $12 for registration and $4 per game. Soccer training
