Public Safety
The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Residential burglary—Oct. 3, 8:10 p.m., 1500 block of S. Bernardo Avenue. The victim said she left her house at 10 a.m. and returned home at 7 p.m. While she was gone, a person pried a screen off of an open backyard window and gained entrance to the house. The burglar took several pieces of women's jewelry—one gold ring with small diamonds, worth $300, one gold ring with a blue stone, worth $200, and two rings with jade, worth $100 each. There are no suspects at this time.

Auto burglary—Oct. 3, 12:15 p.m., 500 block of N. Britton Avenue. A Sony AM/FM stereo, worth $20, and eight CDs, worth $20, were taken from a parked vehicle.

Possession of controlled substance—Oct. 2, 11 p.m., 100 block of W. Evelyn Ave. A Sunnyvale Public Safety officer observed a man dressed in dark clothing standing near the rollaway gate of a closed business. The officer contacted the man and he identified himself. Upon contact, the officer noticed that his pupils were extremely dilated, he was fidgety and his speech was fast. During a consensual search of his person, the officer discovered 3.2 grams of amphetamine. The officer placed the subject under arrest and transported him to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.

Commercial burglary—Oct. 2, 6:53 p.m., 1000 block of E. Arques Avenue. The perpetrator selected an item worth $749.99 off the shelf of a store, unwrapped the package, placed it under his arm, walked past the cash registers and exited the store without paying. He was placed under citizen's arrest by store security and turned over to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety. The officer booked and transported the perpetrator to county jail.

Residential burglary—Oct. 2, 1:30 p.m., 500 block of Westside Drive. The victim said that he and his wife left for work at 9:40 a.m. and returned at approximately 1:30 p.m. to find the front door unlocked and one of the back sliding doors pried upon. After a check of the house, the victim found that $6,050 worth of personal property had been taken.

Forgery—Oct. 2, 400 block of N. Mathilda Avenue. The reporting party said that checks had been stolen from her daughter's mail. Someone was using the checks and forging the daughter's signature. The checks have been used in locations in various cities, including a store in Sunnyvale.
