The season ended last week for the football teams at Homestead and Cupertino high schools. But that's just the first season—there's another one starting up this week.

The regular season came to an end on Nov. 15 when Cupertino beat Fremont and Homestead dropped a 27-8 non-league decision to Milpitas. But the playoff season is just about set to begin.

Both the Mustangs and Pioneers earned berths in the Central Coast Section (CCS) playoffs.

Homestead, champs in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, will host Oak Grove on Nov. 23, 7 p.m., at Fremont High School's Diesner field in CCS Division 2 play.

Cupertino, meanwhile, will be on the road to visit Gonzales on Nov. 23, 7 p.m., in CCS Division 3 action.

The Mustangs take an 8-2 season record into the playoffs following last Friday's loss to the Trojans. Homestead's only two losses this season were to playoff teams Milpitas and Gunn.

Homestead posted a 6-0 record to take the El Camino Division crown, good for an automatic CCS berth.

Oak Grove finished in a three-way second place in the Blossom Valley Athletic League's Mt. Hamilton Division. The Eagles, 7-3 for the year, finished 4-2 in league play.

Cupertino, 8-2 for the year, won an at-large berth in the playoffs. The Pioneers finished second in the El Camino Division to Homestead. Their only losses this season were to the Mustangs and Independence, another playoff team.

Gonzales, 9-1 for the year, enters the playoffs after posting a 6-0 record to win the title in the Mission Trail Athletic League.
