Suspects' family should bear some responsibility
I am sick to my stomach about the horrible abuse that was inflicted on that poor little Scottish terrier as described in the article "Endless Love" in the Jan. 15 issue of The Sun. What a terrible thing for the Parrish family to endure, especially knowing that the young man that they trusted enough to allow to come into their home on a daily basis to play with their dog may be responsible.
While it is touching that so many community members have made donations to cover the cost of the dog's medical care, I believe that it is up to the parents of these young men to pay for all of the Parrish family's pain and suffering.
Those "boys" need to be placed in a psychiatric facility until it can be proven that they are truly rehabilitated. What a sad incident.

Downtown buildings serve some purpose
As the second desecration of the only "downtown" we have, the Town Center Mall seems to resemble a stranded oil tanker plopped down where it doesn't belong. The mall is famous for wrecking the grand city hall on Murphy Avenue with its white pillars and tower—the principal distinction of the community.
Some citizens have said what's wrong with the latest proposed high-rises on our cityscape. Here are some reasons why these structures are right for Sunnyvale:
They densely consume as much of our prime community airspace as possible ... They are the work of those few politicians in city hall who have embraced massive grandiosity in the heart of "our" town ... They can serve as dependable lightning rods for mockery and scorn ... They can be monuments to the vanity of city officials ... They can serve as elevations for pigeons to roost ... They can be remembered on local election day.
