Sunnyvale city officials are giving residents the opportunity to work with them toward a decision on the budget crisis.
City council members will facilitate several community meetings to begin the dialogue between city staff and residents. The first two meetings will present an overview of budget issues and the process the city will follow in the next few months.
"What we're trying to do is inform the community so residents can provide feedback to the council about the issues that are put forward," said Coryn Campbell, the city's neighborhood and community services manager.
At each of the meetings the city will address a specific issue, such as reduction in services, additional fees and charges, and tax increases. The city will also be reviewing the 10-year capital plan. To get as much input from the public as possible, the city will offer a morning meeting and an evening meeting on each topic.
Though the decision on what services to cut is ultimately up to the council, Campbell said public input would be considered. The city council will meet on June 17 to make a final decision on the budget.
The first meeting will be held on Feb. 21 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Columbia Middle School multipurpose room. The second meeting will be on Feb. 24 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Community Center community room. For more information, contact Michelle Taiariol at 408.730.7489.
