Minikel was born July 15, 1950 in Benton Harbor, Mich. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1968 and from Foothill College in 1982 with an associate of science degree in electronic engineering. He was a Sunnyvale resident for 22 years.

He is survived by his brothers David Minikel of Tacoma, Wash., Harry "Bud" Minikel of Raleigh, N.C. and Fred Minikel of Dowagiac, Mich., and sisters Dianne McFadden of Gobles, Mich. and Gloria James of Benton Harbor, Mich.

According to his sister Gloria, Minikel showed an early interest in electronics and often spent long hours in the electronics workshop he shared with his three brothers.

"Royce was the baby of the family," James said. "We miss the family time we spent together. His death took us by surprise."

Minikel was cremated at Martin and Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette, La. A private memorial service and interment will be held in Dowagiac, Mich. in May.
