Thomas in Hall

Willie Thomas of Sunnyvale will become one of 11 new members of the Chicago Catholic League Hall of Fame when the 43rd annual induction ceremonies are held May 1 in Illinois.

Thomas was one of three players from Mount Carmel High School's 1944 league and city championship basketball team to earn all-state honors by the Champaign News-Gazette.

The Chicago Catholic League was founded in 1912.


AYSO sign-ups

Sunnyvale AYSO Region 44 will hold soccer registration for the fall season on May 3 and 31, 9 a.m. to noon each day, at Ortega Park. The program is open to players ages 4 1/2 and up, and the fee is $98 per player. For more information, reference www.ayso44.org or call 408.739.AYSO.


Local track meet

Bethel Lutheran School of Cupertino will host its fourth annual invitational track and field meet on May 3, 9 a.m., on the Cupertino High School track. The meet is open to children in the first through sixth grades. For more information, call 408.252.8512, ext. 118.


Golf for Kaitlyn

A golf tournament to benefit Kaitlyn Langstaff and her family will be held May 5 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start at the Silver Creek Country Club. The entry fee of $150 includes green fees, a golf cart and lunch.

Raffle prizes include a signed San Jose Sharks jersey, a hockey stick autographed by Teemu Selanne, a one-night star at Cordevalle, a round of golf for four at Silver Creek, gift certificates at Maggiano Little Italy in Santana Row and at Steamers in Los Gatos and much more.

All proceeds from the tournament go to Kaitlyn and the Langstaff family. Kaitlyn is the Saratoga 9-year-old who suffers from toxic epidermal necrolysis, a severe form of Stevens Johnson Syndrome.
