It was a great day for the Mountain View swimming and diving teams at the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division finals.
And it wasn't a bad day for the swimmers from Lynbrook, Cupertino and Fremont, either.
Mountain View was cooking, churning through the Lynbrook waters to set nine league records while winning the boys and girls team championships.
But while the Spartans were winning the league titles, the Vikings, Pioneers and Firebirds had swimmers finishing among the leaders to earn berths in the upcoming Central Coast Section swimming and diving championships.
Mountain View enters the meet after winning the El Camino girls and boys titles and setting nine league records in the process. But Lynbrook swimmers also managed to set a new league mark at the El Camino meet.
Sophomore Michael Wang teamed with seniors Cole Robinson, Lawrence Ma and Steve Jian to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:33.44, breaking the old league mark of 1:35.25 set by Saratoga in 2002.
Lynbrook actually finished second to Mountain View in each of the two varsity divisions. Cupertino was third in each division with Fremont fourth in boys action and fifth behind Wilcox in girls competition.
Starring for Fremont at the finals were Tony Zhu, Andrew Amm and Trevor Fontes in boys competition and Aly Meyer in girls action.
Zhu was third in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.00 and third in the 100 fly in 56.43, and Amm was third in the 100 breast in 1:07.08. The two teamed with Gordon Cameron and Stephen Shimshock for a third in the 200 medley relay in 1:52.35.
Fontes finished third in the 1-meter diving event with 263.72 points.
Meyer, though just a freshman, was a league champion in the 500 free in 5:28.28. She was also second in the 200 IM in 2:22.86.
