Lady Birds split

The Fremont girls softball team split a pair of El Camino Division decisions last week, losing 3-0 to Milpitas before beating Gunn 17-5, to wind up 6-6 in the division and 10-12 for the year.

Kim Glass tossed a 2-hitter to lead the Lady Birds to the win over the Titans. She pushed her season mound record to 6-9 with the victory.

Kelsey Severns doubled twice and singled twice to drive in four runs to lead Fremont.

Jessica Moore doubled and singled twice and Adriana Carbajal had three hits to knock in two runs. Jessica Diaz had two hits for a pair of runs and Teena Joos had two hits. Erin Sturm and Ally Lang each had two runs.


Volleyball losses

The Fremont and Homestead volleyball teams each lost in the first round of the CCS playoffs last week. The Firebirds lost 15-11, 15-8, 15-6 to St. Francis, despite a 22-kill effort by Danny Mase, to finish the season 23-11, and the Mustangs fell 15-7, 15-11, 15-12 to Oak Grove to wind up 18-8. Jake Rosener had 19 kills for the Mustangs in the losing cause.

Los Gatos had won the SCVAL De Anza Division championship with Homestead second and Fremont. All three advanced to CCS, but the Mustangs and Firebirds lost in the first round while Los Gatos opened with back-to-back wins.


CCS track finals

The CCS track and field semifinals will be held on May 24 at San José City College with field events to begin at 10 a.m. and running events at 11 a.m. The following week, the CCS track championships will be held May 31 at SJCC with field events at 4 p.m. and running events at 6 p.m.
