Public Safety
The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Grand theft—May 18, 5:30 p.m., 1200 block of Elko Drive. An unknown person stole two laptops from a private business. The stolen property is valued at $3,200.

Possession of marijuana—May 17, 2:26 a.m., intersection of Mathilda Avenue and Moffett Park. A public safety officer found a person in possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana.

Petty theft—May 16, 5:40 p.m., 1000 block of E. Arques Avenue. A man selected an item from the shelf of a store, placed it in his pocket and exited the store without paying for it. Store security personnel placed him under citizen's arrest. A public safety officer arrived at the scene and arrested the man.

Possession of drug paraphernalia—May 16, 3:19 a.m., 700 block of N. Mathilda Avenue. A public safety officer was conducting a routine patrol and noticed an occupied vehicle parked in the lot of a motel. The officer contacted the driver and passenger, and a consensual search revealed both were in possession of glass "crack/ crank" pipes. The officer cited and released both people.

Attempted commercial burglary—May 14, 11:50 p.m., 500 block of Del Rey Street. An officer was dispatched to a building for a possible burglary. A man told the officer he had seen a person running away from the building wearing a hooded sweatshirt. The reporting party then found a pry bar and a glove near the entrance to the building.

Attempted commercial burglary—May 12, 5:18 a.m., 200 block of E. Weddell Drive. A public safety officer was dispatched to a building in response to a business alarm. Upon investigation of the exterior of the building, the officer noticed what appeared to be an attempt to smash a window on the east side of the building. A dispatch officer notified the reporting party, who later verified that the damage was new.

Petty theft—May 11, 12:50 p.m., 500 block of E. El Camino Real. Store security personnel observed a woman placing several items in a shopping cart and walking out of the store. The woman passed several cash registers on her way out but did not attempt to stop and pay. The store security personnel placed her under citizen's arrest for petty theft.

Auto burglary—May 11, 3 a.m., 1000 block of E. Evelyn Avenue. An unknown person smashed the right rear window of a parked vehicle and removed an amplifier and speakers. The stolen property is valued at $420.

Possession of syringes without prescription—May 10, 7:56 p.m., intersection of El Camino Real and Mary Avenue. A public safety officer found a man in possession of syringes without a prescription. The officer arrested the man, who was later released from public safety headquarters with a citation.
