'Birds face Cats
Fremont and Los Gatos will renew their baseball rivalry this week when they meet again, this time in the Central Coast Section Division II semifinals.
The Firebirds and Wildcats played three times in the regular season in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, with the Cats taking two out of three.
The clubs will meet again on May 29, 4 p.m., at San Jose Municipal Stadium, with the winner to face the Monterey-Leland winner in the CCS championship game on May 31 at Muni.
Fremont earned its place in the semifinals by beating Soquel 12-2 in the first round of the playoffs and Leigh 8-5 in the quarter-final round. The Firebirds are now 16-10 for the year.
In other local action, the Homestead baseball team lost a tough 3-1 decision to Wilcox in the first round of the CCS Division I playoffs.
CyberRays camps
The San Jose CyberRays, the local women's professional soccer team, will host a four-day summer camp for girls, focusing on the fundamentals and tactical skills needed to play soccer.
The camp, for girls ages 816, is scheduled for June 25 at West Valley College in Saratoga. Sessions run 57 p.m. and the cost is $180 per player. Players will be separated according to age and skill level, and goalkeeper specific training will be available.
A camp for teams is set for July 2124 at West Valley. Sessions run from 56:30 p.m. or 6:308 p.m. and the cost is $160 per player (based on a minimum of 12 players per team). There is no charge for coaches.
